Meanwhile Jan 28, Joshua rated it it was ok. Now, I know the time this lead issue was written was an awkward and terrible time for everyone, and I don't envy authors who had to write about characters in a city where a real life tragedy occured, but man this issue is frustrating.
Kiss my grits. And Doctor Doom CRYING? I don't think he'd be GLAD something like this happened, but he wouldn't care at all about the lives lost.
Magneto and Juggernaut I could buy, because they often ride the line between hero and villain; however, I'm pretty sure Magneto was presumed dead at the time this comic was originally published.
Also, there's a line about how unfortunate that Captain America has had to see this twice? I don't know if this is supposed to be referencing Pearl Harbor, or what, but that line was a big what the heck for me.
So overall, that issue starts the collection out on such a sour note. The actual storyline of this collection isn't too bad.
Aunt May discovers Peter is Spider-Man, and has to cope with it. Its really a touching issue, and this time it was the real Aunt May, and she lived well past this, so we get to see her fit into Peter's double life in new ways.
They have a tearful moment with each other where they both express how they each carried some blame for Uncle Ben's death, and what a relief it is to not carry secrets any longer.
This was a great issue, and had very little action, just character driven dialogue. However, this book is done a great disservice by a forthcoming book in the series titled "One More Day" where it is effectively erased from existence.
Everyone forgets Peter's identity except for Mary Jane, so presumably this whole discussion is forgotten about, and they're back to lying to each other.
Good read by itself, marred by further plot development. Jul 09, Norman rated it it was amazing Shelves: comics. Super non-Spider-Man volume.
Lots of heart with still enough humor thrown in to feel Spider-Man-like. Jun 21, Jamie Poff rated it it was amazing.
JMS really does a fantastic job with the writing, particularly in the first issue 36 of AMS V2 , and the contrasting silent issue sets off the entire arc as a piece of comic art.
Jul 28, Xavier Guillaume rated it really liked it Recommends it for: Spider-man fans, Marvel fans, literature fans. Shelves: graphic-novel.
The art in this volume is amazing. I love how much emotion you can see on the characters' faces, especially on Peter and Aunt May.
Because this book is jam-packed full of emotion, the emotion through the art is pivotal, and this book surely does not disappoint. Issue 36 is about the attack on the Twin Towers.
It's a sad, emotionally-charged issue given the material it is covering. It's solemn, and poetic. Perhaps this issue is not pertinent to the overall Spider-Man story, but it is important fo The art in this volume is amazing.
Perhaps this issue is not pertinent to the overall Spider-Man story, but it is important for New Yorkers, especially to those who experienced the catastrophe first hand, and perhaps its important for all Americans in general.
I can't help but think that this issue is like a historical archive. Perhaps years from now, people will read this issue and they will be able to catch a glimpse of how people thought and felt about this terrible tragedy.
Issue 37 is my favorite issue of the book. In it we see Peter's sensitive and parental side. There is definitely something charming about his persona.
It's remarkable how he always knows how to do the right thing. For most, it's incredibly hard to know what to do.
Life often hurls us into situations where we have to choose between two terrible choices. Perhaps because Peter has experienced so much, and has faced the hardest dangers, he can choose and not be afraid.
He can do what's right, which for most people is the hardest thing to do. In that, I can't help but feel drawn to this issue.
Peter Parker is a humanitarian. A quality I both admire and strive to be. If anything, I hope this issue could be an inspiration for others, that perhaps someone would read this issue and feel impassioned to be like Parker: take action, help others, and never be afraid.
Issue 38 was a complete surprise. In it Aunt May confronts Peter with the secret she knows. I had no idea how she would react. I actually thought the complete opposite would turn up.
This surprise threw me, and the outcome filled me with emotion. Like I said, this is an emotionally-charged novel, which I applaud the authors for undertaking and succeeding in.
In Issue 39 we have a completely textless issue. The entire issue is silent, but even still I felt strongly attached to what was going on, and I felt greatly enraptured by the story.
I'm usually not a fan of image-only comics. Most feel detached, disjointed, confusing; however, this one was none of those things. It was as good of quality as any of the other issues in the novel, which I have to commend the authors for.
All in all, I strongly recommend reading this book. I'm curious where the franchise is leading, and I can't wait to read the next one.
I also want to note, that even though these issues are sad, touching, emotional, there are still clever jokes interspersed throughout.
I couldn't help but laugh out loud in even the most surprising parts. Spider-Man always has a witty sense of humor, and I'm glad that they decided to include this aspect of him in the novel.
There's nothing like the feeling of anxiety, and then the next moment you're laughing. Some may think that type of juxtaposition sounds absurd, but I think there is something strangely human about experiencing the wide gamut of emotions in just a few moments.
That rollercoaster of feelings, that's what life is, and I like that these issues emulate that. Mar 20, Wing Kee rated it really liked it.
Quiet moments are the best. With the battle over, Spider-Man tells Peter to get going so he can be there when his daughter is born.
Having destroyed the last of Gaunt's robots, Parker doesn't argue and bounds away. With Stromm disarmed, Spider-Man then begins demanding answers when he is suddenly blasted by someone standing behind him.
Spider-Man instantly recognizes who this man is and can't believe it as he believed them to be dead. With Spider-Man down, the mystery employer reminds Gaunt what happens when his minions fail him and blast Gaunt as well.
At the hospital, Mary Jane gives the final push to give birth to her baby. When she doesn't hear the baby crying, Mary Jane asks what is wrong with her baby.
That's when Doctor Folsome begins making his apologies, making Mary Jane realize that he baby didn't survive.
As she cries one of the nurses, who turns out to be a woman by the name of Alison Mongrain removes her surgical mask and wheels a car out of the operating room.
She later drives her car out to the waterfront where she meets with her mystery employer. Confirming that she has brought the package she was hired to bring, the man pays her a sizable amount of money and puts her on a private boat that is to take her to Europe with a generous bonus to cover her travel expenses.
Revelations concludes in Spider-Man 75 and Spider-Man: Revelations 1. This story is mostly a reprint of Spider-Man 75 , with fourteen additional pages added to expand on the story.
Subsequent reprints of Spider-Man 75 particularly digital editions include these 14 pages. For the purposes of the Marvel Database, this page serves to specify the additional pages, as well as provide an accurate chronology of the characters.
Now [Continuity 1]. The Green Goblin has just beaten Ben Reilly and Peter Parker. With Parker hanging outside the building by a web-line, the Green Goblin begins flying toward the Daily Bugle building.
Ben Reilly tries to get back up to help Peter, but he is still too weak. His mind then drifts back to earlier that night when he was at the mercy of Norman Osborn.
Ben had just been blasted by Norman Osborn who then loads Reilly onto a helicopter. The whole time Norman mocked Spider-Man, calling him a clone.
Thinking this is yet another lie and manipulation, Spider-Man lashes out refusing to allow Norman Osborn to cause more grief for Peter Parker and his wife Mary Jane.
He then reveals that he is coming to the climax of a scheme that was years in the making. Not only is he going to utterly destroy Peter Parker, but he has also tricked all of his friends to meet at the offices of the Daily Bugle.
His recollection last but mere moments and the Green Goblin is still flying toward the Daily Bugle. Once again, Ben Reilly tries to must the strength to stop his mortal foe, as the lives of his friends and family are on the line.
Several days after the death of Ben Reilly, the Parkers have a wake in the home of Peter's Aunt May. There they are gathered by friends and acquaintances of both Peter Parker and Ben Reilly.
Among the mourners is mobster Jimmy-6, who approaches the Parkers and Mary Jane's Aunt Anna. He offers his condolences, telling them that Ben once saved his life.
He tells Peter that he meant it when he said that he would do anything for the Parkers. He also vows to kill the Green Goblin if he turns up alive, and he will kill Spider-Man as well if he learns that the wall-crawler has anything to do with Ben's death.
Peter tells Jimmy that he wishes he could talk about this more but he has one last thing to do for Ben. A short time later on the Brooklyn Bridge, Spider-Man holds an urn containing Ben Reilly's ashes.
He says his final farewells, saying that Ben changed his life forever and he will remember him always. As Ben Reilly's ashes spread across Manhattan, engineers are assessing the damage done to the Daily Bugle during the battle between Spider-Man and the Green Goblin.
While their backs are turned, the Green Goblin emerges from the rubble and murders the two men in order to cover up the fact that he survived. As it turns out, the Green Goblin planned for such an outcome from their battle.
As he strips off his costume, Norman Osborn leaves so he can prepare for what comes next Events in this story occur behind the scenes that affect the chronology of the following characters:.

This May is eventually revealed to have symbiotic powers. Eventually, both Mays come to an understanding and, with the aid of Peter and the spirit of his late Aunt May, defeat Norman Osborn in a psychic duel when all three Parkers are merged briefly into one body controlled by Norman's active consciousness.
The story continued in The Spectacular Spider-Girl , a feature being published both online and in the pages of the new Web of Spider-Man.
In it, the new May changes her name to April and becomes Mayday's rival and occasional partner. Eventually, April is defeated by the Fury and the Goblin Queen and told that she is the clone.
April is eventually freed and together, she and Mayday defeat the Fury. April afterwards begins to get involved with the gang warfare erupting in New York and eventually cuts herself off from the Parker Family.
The saga ends with a future incarnation of April who, having experienced a drastically darker future which is created from Mayday's death, travels back in time and urges her past self to save Mayday's life.
April agrees, and seemingly sacrifices her own life to save Mayday as she is caught in a ferocious explosion. Mayday mourns April's passing, though Peter is not convinced of her death and assures May that clones have a habit of turning up again.
The Clone Saga was adapted for Marvel's Ultimate imprint. It began in Ultimate Spider-Man 97 July and concluded in , with a small epilogue in In the Ultimate Spider-Man continuity, the character Miles Warren was first introduced as Harry Osborn's psychiatrist who was hired by Norman Osborn to brainwash out any memories of his Goblin persona.
Ben Reilly was established as an African-American lab assistant with no personal ties to Peter , although in the " Carnage " story-arc, Reilly refers to the Carnage creature as "Little Ben".
The creature itself being created from a combination of Peter Parker and Curt Conner's DNA with traces of the Venom suit's genetic material as well. In this version, Bendis wrote a story in which the Scorpion is captured and revealed to be Peter's clone, sharing MJ is then abducted, and searching for her, Peter runs into Spider-Woman , and in the following issues, further Spider-Man clones appear, among them one with a disfigured face Kaine and a black-suited clone with six arms Tarantula.
Bendis also made Peter reveal his secret identity to Aunt May and the Fantastic Four , and let an amnesiac Gwen Stacy and Peter's presumed dead father Richard Parker re-appear though the former of the two actually escaped.
Via a longer dialogue through Peter and Spider-Woman, Bendis also established that every clone has inherited Peter's love for MJ, and his worries of her getting hurt; as a result, they each tried a different approach, the Scorpion trying to make sense of his jumbled memories, Spider-Woman trying to stop the other clones, Kaine using his advanced mind to incorporate the drug OZ into MJ's body, and the Tarantula trying to defend MJ from Kaine.
Upon waking to find that she has been injected with OZ, MJ is enraged, and her anger triggers a transformation into a large, red monster called the Demogoblin.
As of issue , the masterminds behind the clones seem to be Doctor Octopus and Ben Reilly who stole a sample of Spider-Man's blood shortly after the death of Gwen Stacy.
A fight between the clones and Dr. Octopus leaves the Tarantula and Kaine apparently dead, and Doctor Octopus captured by S.
As a twist, Bendis established that Doctor Octopus and Reilly acted with consent of the CIA. In addition, Gwen is revealed to be Carnage, and Richard revealed to be yet another clone issues , aged artificially and given psychic treatment to create his false memories.
As of the end of the Ultimate Clone Saga, the clone posing as Richard died from his rapid aging, Jessica Drew fled after helping Peter defeat Octavius, and Dr.
Franklin Storm and Reed Richards found a cure for Mary Jane's OZ-related affliction; Peter's relief at her safe condition made him realize his true feelings for her and resumed their relationship.
Reed Richards suggested that they might even remove Peter's powers after some more research, since they are also partially caused by the OZ serum.
However, after a talk with Nick Fury , Peter rejects the cure and got back together with MJ. The Spider-Woman clone left to embrace the "Jessica Drew" identity and the other remaining clones—the Scorpion and Gwen Stacy—were left in the custody of Nick Fury, who advised his Scientists to 'get to work' on them.
In re-imagining the story for the Ultimate Universe, Brian Bendis inserted many references to the original Clone Saga.
Among them are that the brief appearances of the characters Miles Warren and Ben Reilly; Peter re-examining his relationship with MJ; an amnesiac Gwen Stacy appearing from nowhere, then turning out to be more than she seems; Aunt May experiencing a heart attack; a "Scarlet Spider" Spider-Woman evading Peter and later being used as a plot dump ; a half-formed, semi-insane clone appearing several times, specifically wanting to protect MJ; a 'mystery woman' called 'Jessica'; an old friend and colleague of Norman Osborn appearing to have been manipulating the scenes from behind Dr.
